Artist statement:
"Being able to turn bowls was a process that was long in coming. I joined the Navy in 1947. After taking a series of tests in Boot Camp, they asked me what I wanted to be. I said I would like to be a Carpenter's Mate. They replied, you scored very high on the tests so we are sending you to Electronics School. After 20 years in Electronics and Nuclear Power I retired and finally got to do wood work."
John Critchfield is an experienced woodturner on the island of Oahu. He takes extreme care to retain the natural features of the wood.
