"I was born and raised in Pahala, a small town in the Ka'u district, on the Island of Hawai'i.  My family was in the sugar business and we lived in a small plantation community.  We were a close family and lived in a tight community.  I always had plenty of friends to go on adventures with, and we spent lots of time in the wilderness.  When not attending school, we would spend our days exploring the mountains and beaches, living off whatever we could catch."

"As far as my art is concerned, I am mostly a self-taught artist.  I work with oils and my style is considered realistic or representational.  I think growing up where I did and how I did has influenced the type of art I do.  Locality, most likely, molded my style which gives my art the credibility it needs to be appreciated by others.  It allows me to get my message across which is built on real emotions and feelings I have felt when visiting places that are special to me on the islands.  But, I also think that if you are blessed with a gift, it doesn't matter where you grow up, your talent will eventually come out.  I believe art chose me, not the other way around, and for that I am very thankful."

"Now, in my fifties, I live on Kohala Mountain at about the 3,200 foot level with two of my three wonderful children.  Having them live with me is how I know I'm one of the luckiest people on earth."

"Being able to spend as much time as possible with my children is my top priority.  Working as an artist allows me the time and freedom to do so while also serving as a way to express myself creatively.  I love to paint and am grateful for the opportunity to share my art with others."
