Artist statement:

Ever since I can remember, I was always drawing.  Everywhere:  on the sidewalk, on paper, or on the blackboard at school.  When I was 4 years old, I liked to draw ballet dancers.  I always included all the details of their costumes and I usually did it with chalk on the asphalt playground.

I graduated from college in 1977 and worked as an architect for the next 15 years.  At the same time, I also worked as an artist for a theater company doing oil paintings on silk costumes and murals for stage backdrops.

During the last few years, I've had a close affinity for the native Hawaiian art and culture.  I usually start out with a model or a picture of a model, but end up with something different than the original conception.
