Artist Statement:

"Glass is the ultimate medium for sculpture.  The artist can speak through the work, yet the glass always speaks for itself.  The medium tells not only its journey through creation, but as it takes on its own life, it speaks its own story.  Creating life out of the molten puddle of glass inside the furnace is the thought that entices my mind every waking day. Whether the impulse stems from the instinct of reproduction, modifying genetic code to continue natural selection, or the need and desire to tell a story to pass on to future generations, I use glass to show my thoughts on society.  The medium defines who I am; it can express what I know; and it is what translates what I see around us.  A piece of glass art takes its own personality and form as it is being made.  Sculpting the glass occurs in that brief moment in time when molten material begins to solidfy and awaits the guidance of the artist.  The process of glass from the furnace is the battle between creation and the science experiments of chemistry and physics.  The glass has to be formed and shaped in the little windows of spontaneity, making it difficult to instruct the medium.  The finished product is a frozen moment of time, as it represents those moments during the struggle of creation.  The immediacy of hot sculpted glass is not found in any other medium or form of glass working.  Glass is the melting pot of various materials found in the environment, mixed together, heated up, and manipulated.  The ideas are mxied as well with the medium, and the result is the complex product of art glass."
